Who has right of way on a cycle path?
‘Cycle Path’ has no legal definition but is often used to describe continuous cycle routes away from the carriageway that may be formed by a combination of Cycle Tracks, Bridleways and other Public Right of Way.
Cycle tracks are for bicycle use but may also have a right of way on foot. The 2022 Highway Code includes a priority for users, recognising the damage which a relatively fast moving and heavier (than a pedestrian) cycle may inflict. However, pedestrians and other roads users may cross the track, so you should always be aware.
