On November 9, 2024, Cycle SOS and Fletchers Solicitors are thrilled to be joining Bee Pedal Ready and Station South for the annual Lights Up: Disco Ride on Wheels. This inspiring event, held in the heart of Manchester, brings women together for an illuminated evening ride through the city streets and parks, spreading awareness around cycling safety and encouraging more women to ride through the winter months. With the season’s darker evenings, this event is a timely reminder of the importance of feeling safe on two wheels, especially for women and other vulnerable riders.
Cycle SOS, Fletchers’ cycling accident claims brand, is committed to making roads safer for cyclists of all backgrounds. As the official legal provider for Cycling UK members, we’re proud to support their ongoing mission to increase female representation in cycling and make cycling more inclusive and accessible.
Representing Fletchers Solicitors and Cycle SOS, Partner Nadia Kerr and cycling solicitor Jayne Orme, will be riding in this spirited “bike disco” through Manchester’s parks and streets.
“As winter approaches, it’s essential that women feel empowered and safe to continue cycling,” says Nadia Kerr. “Events like this help break down barriers, especially in the darker months when safety concerns can discourage many from riding. We’re here to show our support, as both legal advocates and as women riders.”
Jayne Orme added, “Lights Up is a wonderful initiative that unites women of all ages, highlighting the joy and safety of group cycling. It’s a chance to remind everyone that cycling should be inclusive, safe, and accessible—regardless of the season.”
Event Highlights
The Lights Up ride promises to be a visual celebration, welcoming all women, non-binary individuals, and allies to join a relaxed, illuminated ride across Manchester. Participants are encouraged to bring out their brightest, most sparkly attire and decorate their bikes with lights and decorations, transforming the city streets into a moving disco! The ride will start at All Saints Park, weaving through Oxford Road and three iconic Manchester parks before finishing at Victoria Baths, where riders can unwind with hot drinks, food, and music.
To make the ride more accessible, Lights Up offers “feeder rides” from various locations, so participants can ride safely into the city as a group. For added visibility, free wheel lights will be available to those joining the feeder rides and for the first 50 riders who gather at the main starting point.
Supporting Inclusivity in Cycling
This event aligns closely with Fletchers Solicitors and Cycle SOS’s shared mission with Cycling UK to encourage more women to embrace cycling and feel secure doing so. By taking part in initiatives like Lights Up, we continue our support for making cycling safer and more inclusive for everyone, with a special emphasis on addressing the unique challenges women face while riding.
If you’re in the Manchester area and ready to light up the city on two wheels, come join us for an evening ride full of music, lights, and camaraderie. Let’s pedal together toward a brighter, safer future for cycling!
