More Potholes on the Horizon?

The RAC has recorded an increase in pothole related breakdowns between April and June. When comparing current figures to those of the same quarter last year, we can see a rise of approximately a third (31{9b4a2c8832b2482ca7eb937f6bfa363e1f3f7cb05e1b42927da41c9eadde8c32}).[1] The rise in pothole related breakdowns could be indicative of a rise of potholes on the road.

The RAC chief engineer has warned that the statistics show that extreme weather could result in road surfaces deteriorating even further.[2] The weather this year has been much drier than the previous year, the chief engineer believes this to be a great concern and the condition of the road has been described as balanced on a knife-edge.[3] An outbreak of harsh weather could see roads in a state of further disrepair.

A rise in potholes can only spell bad news for motorists and cyclists alike, as it may result in a rise of pothole related breakdowns and accidents.
