The RAC has recorded an increase in pothole related breakdowns between April and June. When comparing current figures to those of the same quarter last year, we can see a rise of approximately a third. The rise in pothole related breakdowns could be indicative of a rise of potholes on the road.
The RAC chief engineer has warned that the statistics show that extreme weather could result in road surfaces deteriorating even further.[2] The weather this year has been much drier than the previous year, the chief engineer believes this to be a great concern and the condition of the road has been described as balanced on a knife-edge.[3] An outbreak of harsh weather could see roads in a state of further disrepair.
