Paralympic cycling champion Breaks his back in Crash

Gold medal winning cycle champion, Simon Richardson has broken his back in two places following a hit and run incident.

The 44 year old cyclist is said to be in a critical but stable condition. Richardson, who won two gold medals and one silver at the Beijing games in 2008 is no longer on Britain’s para –cycling squad but was still training when the accident occurred.

The incident reportedly involved Richardson being struck from behind by a white van and thrown to the side of the road. The Air Ambulance took Simon to Cardiff’s University of Wales Hospital where he is being cared for. The paralympian is reported to have suffered a double break to the pelvis, both front and back, and a broken breast bone.

In a statement, Simon’s wife Amanda said “I’d like to thank everyone in the cycling community and other well- wishers for their messages of support for Simon.”

We hope that Simon makes a full recovery soon.
